Leaders of the World according to Mr. Schick

Today Mr. Schick gave us a presentation of all the leaders of the fifteen nations he selected, which had a lot to do with the USA. This presentation was very similar to the project we had to do but it included a whole extra slide with more details on the person. First up was Mexico's Enrique Peña Nieto. Enrique has been in office for ten to twelve years now and has low approval ratings; twenty-eight percent. Enrique is believed to have had a wife of his killed so he could marry Angelica Rivera. He is known as the Teflon candidate. China's Xi Jinping is actually the son of the Chinese communist party's founder. A common theme which we will see in other countries is the son of the current leader going into the family business of politics. Xi is married to folk singer Peng Lijuan who is also army general and for awhile was more well-known than he was. India's Narendra Modi came from the socially and educated 'backwards' class of society. Modi is Right-Wing and has a masters in political science. Vladimir Putin of Russia is a ruthless and ambitious leader who has served as PM prior to president and is a former KGB officer. Germany's Angela Merkel is the third most powerful person in the world in 2016. France's Emmanuel Macron is probably one of the more recently elected leaders of the list. He has been in office since May 2017 and his wife is twenty-four years older than he is. Japan's Shinzo Abe's father and grandfather were both politicians. Sergio Mattarella of Italy has been in office since January 2015 and his father headed an anti-fascist party under Mussolini-a very bold move. We left off on Bashar al-Assad and we will pick up with him next class.
